Camille Michel, born in France in 1988, studied medicine before discovering the visual arts and photography and entering the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d'Arles. She travelled to Lapland to explore Sami culture, living for a month on an isolated island north of Greenland. She says 'I find inspiration in these little villages, far away from the world, often plunged into boredom and forgotten. I try to recreate the atmosphere of these strange places through photography and video. As these landscapes are seemingly fictitious, I question reality and the future of the world. They present a disturbing universe on the brink and it looks like the end of the world in certain lights.'
